Sophie is an Chemistry Masters student at the University of Edinburgh, with a sustained interest in ocean science. She joined the Coral Climatology working group for the summer of 2019 as a student Assistant and Erasmus student, and since then has also worked in the Lusby group in Edinburgh looking at biologically inspired catalysis of known reactions using cage systems. She plans on undertaking a PhD following the completion of her masters project.
Research interests:
Identifying and synthesising chemical signalling molecules in (invasive) marine life
Designing of polymer films for filtration of microplastics
The chemistry of climate change and ocean acidification specifically on how marine megafauna could be affected
